Tarnesha Nickens

Congratulations to our #WomanOfTheWeek Tarnesha Nickens for balancing #work#life and #community with smile & grace! Her positive can-do spirit sparks creativity and cohesion at every turn! With a heart to serve her community, she’s always ready to help where help is needed most! She is a retired #USAArmyMajor and started her career at GOARMY.COM in 2000. She was often selected to serve with either Heavy Brigade Combat Teams or Military Intelligence Units, which led her to several deployments and assignments throughout the world as a Division Operations & Strength Manager, Brigade Adjutant, Inspector General, Public Affairs Officer, Equality Opportunity Officer & Senior Advisor to Evaluations Chief at Human Resources Command. She participated in Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan) and Operation Bright Star (Egypt) with frequent stops throughout the world in Kuwait, Qatar, the Horn of Africa, Korea, Germany, Guam, Japan, China, Saudi Arabia, Dubai, Phoenix, Miami and Kentucky. 
Tarnesha earned a double undergraduate degree from #SouthernUniversityA&M in Political Science and History with a concentration in #Anthropology. She holds a double Master’s degree from #TroyStateUniversity in both Public Administration and Public Relations. 
She is a #CommunityVolunteer#Mentor#Advocate and #Advisor for civic and local non-profits organizations focusing on the advancement of #WomenVeterans and #DiversityANDInclusion efforts. Tarnesha is passionate about #CommunityOutreach and frequently visits #schools and centers, helping both #homeless and older veterans with life-skills, in addition to mentoring younger generations.

Tarnesha is an active member of #JuniorLeagueOfCollinCounty, #MomsINPrayer#FoldsofHonor#NortheastDallasChapterOFJackANDandJillofAmerica, #DisabledAmericanVeterans (DAV), Association of the U.S. Army (AUSA), National Council of Women of the United States (NCNW), and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and the Melissa Rotary Club. She also holds active memberships in NAACP and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
